Career
He arrived in China in 1883. Since 1884, he worked in Volunteer Corporation Services. In 1886 he started working at Deluge Fire Brigade. He also served on the Shanghai Municipal Council in 1909-1911. In 1912 he served on the Municipal Buildings Committee.
