Career
Served articles with firm of Glasgow Solicitors. Went to Natal, 1883; practised as an Attorney and Advocate since 1885. Has represented the Newcastle Division in Legislative Assembly since 1901.
Held Portfolios of Justice and Education, 1903-1906.
Was Ministerial head of Militia Department, and had considerable responsibility during recent native rebellion. Served Boer War, 1899-1902, first as a Subaltern in the Imperial Light Infantry and later as O.C. of the Newcastle Town Guard with rank of Captain (despatches). Licentiate in Medicine A., Colony of Natal.
