Drayton, Thomas Fenwick was born in 1807 in South Carolina, United States. Son of William and Ann (Gadsden) Drayton.

Graduated from the United States Military Academy, 1828.

Career

Commissioned Lieutenant 6th Infantry, United States Army, 1828. Captain of a company South Carolina. Militia, 1842-1847; member South Carolina.

Board Ordnance, 1851-1852. Member upper house South Carolina. General Assembly, 1853-1856.

President Charleston & Savannah R.R. (constructed and successfully operated under his direction), 1853-1861. Commissioned brigadier general Provisional Confederate Army, 1861. In command Port Royal, South Carolina. when attacked by Union ships under DuPont, 1861.

Commanded brigade in District of Arkansas, later in charge of sub-district in Texas. President South Carolina. Immigrant Society, 1878.
