Engaged in ranching in New Mexico, early in the 80’s, later in coal and iron mining, New Mexico and Colorado. An organizer, about 1895, of the Portland Mining Company, of Cripple Creek, Colorado. Builder of the Silver City & Northern R.R., later purchased by the A., T. & San Francisco Railway.
Retired from active business, but is financially interested in iron, coal and mining properties in the United States and Mexico.
Member Metropolitan Museum Art, Botanical Society America. Member American Geography Society. Clubs: Union, Racquet and Tennis, New York Yacht, Tuxedo, Shinnecock Hills, Kebo Valley and Tuxedo golf clubs.
