(When a white man is found with a knife in his heart and h...)
When a white man is found with a knife in his heart and his pants around his knees, all signs point to a black woman as the killer. Sure enough, Easter Lilly Odum doesn't deny doing the deed-but, she claims, it was either that or getting raped. In a place where white is white, black is black, and the dead man is the brother of the county prosecutor, folks find this story hard to believe. Yet the clear fact is, Easter Lilly is knock-out beautiful, the sort of woman that men lose their minds over-men such as Shep Riley, a New York civil rights lawyer. Riley aims to save Easter Lilly from Southern injustice, even when he is forced to admit that justice, like truth, is a pretty elusive thing. Ingenious, its Southernness palpable, Easter Lilly will beguile and entertain at the same time that it tests the limits of our prejudices.

This is a good one to add to your Kennedy collection. This book is Out of Print. Approximate size is 5.75 x 8.50 and about .25 inches thick. Foreword by Arthur Krock. "This book will be remembered as unique and valuable. It is brilliantly written by a White House reporter who while it is still possible, before reality fades into myth and the monuments obscure the man, asks us to make a last effort to see Kennedy as he really was. He was a man of few days and full of trouble. but the statues will tell us nothing of that." Another good Kennedy book to add to your collection and with a price assigned to make it quite affordable and well worth it. *5BC2

"Superb."—Kurt Vonnegut "Wicker's story though could not be more vital today… A Time To Die compels us to understand the inhumanity of prisons in America, one of the greatest injustices of our time, and of a state that has no compunction about murdering prisoners and jailers alike. Think Attica forty years ago, think Pelican Bay today. Then act."—Michael Ratner, president, Center for Constitutional Rights "[A Time to Die's] lessons about the racist underpinnings of mass incarceration, about the cynical politics that determine life-or-death decisions, and about the conditions that deny prisoners their basic humanity—are as relevant today as when it was first published."—Liliana Segura, associate editor, The Nation "A powerful book."—Anthony Lewis for New York Times In September 1971 the inmates of Attica prison revolted, took hostages, and forced the authorities into four days of desperate negotiation. At the outset the rebels demanded—and were granted—the presence of a group of observers to act as unofficial mediators. Tom Wicker, then the associate editor of The New York Times, was one of those summoned. In four crucial days, he learned more, saw more, and felt more than in most of the rest of his life. In the end, a police attack was launched, and as a result dozens of prisoners, as well as prison employees, were killed. Tom Wicker, a former reporter, Washington bureau chief, and columnist for The New York Times, is the author of several books, including On the Record. He lives in Rochester, Vermont.

( Systemic lupus erythematosus is an autoimmune disease t...)
Systemic lupus erythematosus is an autoimmune disease that can affect any system and organ in the body. For the 1.4 million people in the United States who have lupus, an overactive immune system senses that different parts of the body do not belong, and it attacks these parts. The immune system may strike the cells that line the joints or tendons, for example, causing pain and swelling. An incredibly complex disease, lupus must be properly treated for the optimal health and well-being of the person who has it. The Lupus Encyclopedia is an authoritative compendium that provides detailed explanations of every body system potentially affected by the disease, along with practical advice about coping. People with lupus, their loved ones, caregivers, and medical professionals―all will find here an invaluable resource. Illustrated with photographs, diagrams, and tables, The Lupus Encyclopedia explains symptoms, diagnostic methods, medications and their potential side effects, and when to seek medical attention. Dr. Donald Thomas provides information for women who wish to become pregnant and advises readers about working with a disability, complementary and alternative medicine, infections, cancer, and a host of other topics.
