Preparatory education Andover (Massachusetts) Academy. Bachelor of Arts, Bucknell U. Doctor of Civil Law, University of Pennsylvania and Bucknell.

Career

Admitted to Pennsylvania bar, 1895, began practice at Hollidaysburg. Appointed judge Court Common Pleas, January 13, 1910, and elected to same office, 1911 and 1921. Attorney general Pennsylvania, by appointment governor, 1927-1929.

Appointed judge Superior Court of Pennsylvania, January 18, 1929, and elected to same office November 1929, for term expiring January 1, 1940, reelected November 1939, appointed president judge, January 1945.

Appointed one of three commissioner to codify and revise laws of decedents’ estates, October 14, 1915.
