Studied at St. Stanislaus’ College, Tullabeg, King’s County.
Fellow Royal Institute of Public Health. Served with Field Artillery, Egypt, 1881 - 82 (medal, Khedive’s star). Served with Kimberley Light Horse under Sir C. Warren, Bechuanaland Expedition, 1885-1886.
With Inniskilling Dragoons, operations in Zululand, 1887-1888. With 3rd Battalion Rifle Brigade, Tirah campaign, 1897-1898 (medal and clasp). With 12tli Royal Lancers, South Africa, 1899- 1901 (despatches twice, medal, 6 clasps).
Decorated for attending wounded under fire. Companion of the Distinguished Service Order 1900; Royal Army Medical Corps.
