ALLDRIDGE, Thomas Joshua was born in 1847. Youngest son of late R. W. Alldridge, Old Charlton.
Studied at City of London School. Blackheath Proprietary School.
Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and awarded the Cutlibert Peek grant (1900) for geographical work in the interior of the colony of Sierra Leone, West Coast Africa. Presented with the Life Fellowship of the Zoological Society, London, 1884. Acting LTnited States Consular Agent at Sierra Leone, 1871-1872.
Travelling commissioner for that colony, 1889.
Honourable Inspector Police. Justice of the Peace.
Commissioner of the Court of Requests. Coroner, et cetera; Pioneer into Upper Mendi, Bandi, and Bundi countries, and made numerous treaties on behalf of the British Government with the paramount chiefs.
Sent on special mission by the Government to Itobari, and succeeded in stopping war and making peace between the Timinis and Yonnis.
Convened meeting of 3000 chiefs and people at Bandasuma, Barri country, to meet the Governor, Sir Francis Fleming, Knight Commander of Saint Michael and Saint George, by direction of Secretary of State. As topographical and astronomical observer accompanied His Excellency Sir F. Cardew, Knight Commander of Saint Michael and Saint George, 1894, upon his first interior tour of 617 miles, occupying 52 days. Special mission to Sama country, 1894.
Through the Mendi Rising, 1898 (medal and clasp).
Imperial Service Order,1905. District Commissioner of Sherbro, West Coast of 28 Africa (retired).
