Anderson, Thomas Mcarthur was born on January 21, 1836 in Chillicothe, Ohio, United States. Son of William Marshall and Eliza (McArthur) Anderson.

Education

Graduate Mount St. Mary’s College, Maryland., 1855 (Doctor of Laws). Graduate Cincinnati Law School, 1858. Admitted to Ohio bar, 1858, Ky bar, 1859.

Practiced law, 1858-1861.

Career

Private Company A, 6th Ohio Infantry, April 20, 1861. Advanced through the grades to brigadier general United States Army, March 31, 1899. Retired by operation of law, January 21, 1900.

Bvtd.: major, August, 1864, “for gallant services in Battle of Wilderness”. Lieutenant colonel, August, 1864, for same in battle of Spottsylvania. Commanded 1st expedition to P.I.

Occupied Cavite, June 30, 1898. Commanded land forces taking Manila, August 13, 1898. Commanded 1st div. 8th Army Corps in battles of Santana, San Pedro, Passe and Guadalupe, February 5-March 17, 1899.
