Education

Lineal descendant of Thomas Scott, member English Parliament, and one of committee which signed death warrant of Charles I. Academic education. Moved to Louisville, Kentucky, 1844.

Career

Z. M. Shirley, May 1851. Sergt. major, 1st Kentucky Infantry, in Mexican War. Participated in battles of Monterey and Buena Vista.

In California, 1849-1851.

Commanded troop of volumes against hostile Indians. Lived in Texas, since 1852.

Raised Company I, 9th Texas Infantry, C.S.A. Served through war as captain and a.a.g. Assisted in making peace treaties with 160 wild Indian tribes who had been depredating in Texas, May 1865.
