Studied at National Academy of Design, New York, 1873-1875, Pennsylvania Academy Fine Arts (under Thomas Eakins), 1875-1881, in Paris under Doucet and Bouguereau, 1892-1893.
Instructor life and portrait classes and assistant professor painting and drawing Pennsylvania Academy Fine Arts, 1882, director, 1909, and represented in its permanent collection. Cofounder (with Hugh Breckenridge) summer art school in Fort Washington, Pa, 1898. Honorary mention, Art Club of Philadelphia, 1901.
