After World War I, the Eastern Part of Hungary, including Transylvania, Partium, Banat, and part of the Great Hungarian Plain was given to Rumania without the consent of the native Transylvanian Hungarians. It became a minority status and was forced to endure hard persecution, discrimination and injustice.

Florian was educated at the University of Kolozsvar in Romania, receiving his law degree there in 1934.
Tibor served as Literary Editor for Hungaria in Munich, Germany, from 1947 to 1949. He came to the United States in 1949, becoming a naturalized citizen in 1956. He worked as an announcer for Radio Free Europe, centered in New York City, from 1950 to 1960, and an editor for the same organization from 1961 to 1974. He also was President of Kossuth Publishing Company in Cleveland and New York from 1954 to 1960.
Tibor became a full-time lecturer and freelance writer in 1974. His first book of poetry was Above Clouds, Below Clouds (1935). Florian wrote or edited nine other volumes, including his final work Hungarian Transylvania: A Visual Documentary (1982). He also contributed numerous essays to newspapers, magazines, and journals.
