Graduated from the United States Military Academy, 1891, Artillery School, 1898, School of Submarine Defense, 1903. Honor graduated from Army School of the Line, 1911. Graduated from Army Staff College, 1912.

Career

Commissioned Second lieutenant 3d Cavalry, June 12, 1891. Translations to 2d Artillery, December 15, 1891. First lieutenant 1st Artillery, October 7, 1898.

Promoted through grades to colonel 9th Field Artillery, July 1, 1917. Brigadier general, February 6, 1918. District ordnance officer and artillery engineer Southern Artillery District of New York, 1903-1906.

Duty at Jamestown Exposition, 1907. In Philippines, 1913-1915, Hawaii, 1915-1918. As brigadier general commanded 7th Field Artillery Brigade, 7th Division, during war period.
