Career
Born in Clonakilty, County, Hayes first excelled at football during his schooling at Saint Mary"s College. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he first linked up with the minor team, before later joining the under-21 side. He made his senior debut during the 1966 championship.
At club level he enjoyed a lengthy career in both codes with Clonakilty.
Throughout his inter-county career, Hayes made just four championship appearances foreign His retirement came following the conclusion of the 1970 championship.
