Herron attended the University of New Mexico and played on the 1993 United States Walker Cup team before turning professional later that year.
Herron continued to play consistently after that, but there was a seven-year gap before he claimed his fourth Professional Golf Association Tour title at the 2006 Bank of America Colonial. His best finish in a major championship is a solo 6th place finish in the 1999 United States. In 2006, he featured in the top fifty of the Official World Golf Rankings. He currently resides in Wayzata, Minnesota.
