He later appeared in the Channel 4 2006 television series The Pepsi Max World Challenge, chosen from a pool of 17,000 United Kingdom entrants. The series had a $100,000 prize for the winning team involving David Beckham, Ronaldinho, Thierry Henry and Alessandro Nesta. Lees has performed and choreographed several football commercials and advertisements.
Lees was released from Everton and Bolton Wanderers academies failing to make the grade as a youth player.
His recorded semi professional clubs include Stalybridge Celtic, Leek Town, Maryland (United States of America), Wingate & Finchley, AFC Hayes, Harlow Town and Radcliffe Borough. Lees was chosen to represent England semi professional side at the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany, managed by Jamie Redknapp.
He was refused a work permit by Portuguese Vitoria Setubal after being recommended by ex-Portugal Internationals Dimas and Sao Pinto. Lees worked at Watford and Wigan Athletic"s academies – the latter where we was, until August 2014, Youth Development Manager overseeing the coaching programmes and philosophy under Roberto Martinez.
In August 2014 he announced on his personal Twitter feed he would be leaving Wigan and was joining Liverpool as part of their Academy revamp.
He is Academy Director of Soccer School United Kingdom, based in Warrington. Lees has a Bachelor of Science Honours in Sports Psychology at London Metropolitan University.
