McEneny attended Pelham Memorial High School where he was captain of the basketball and soccer teams.
McEneny graduated from in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. He was inducted into Alpha Phi Mu, the industrial Engineering Honor Society. He was a member of Theta Delta Chi fraternity.

He co-founded American Technical, in 1983 (renamed PurchasingNet, Incorporated in 1998), and created the first Personal Computer-based automated purchasing system named Physician organization Writer Plus.
He later went on to develop the first Web-based software and later a complete Procure-to-Pay solution named PNet. In 2011, he authored "Unlocking Your Entrepreneurial Potential: Marketing, Money, and Management Strategies for the Self-Funded Entrepreneur".
The book became available in September, 2011 and can be purchased at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and iUniverse. He also writes a weekly blog analyzing the entrepreneurs appearing on the Shark Tank television show.
