Career
He composed a fair amount of chamber music and some works for orchestra, as well as a number of operas. Spelman bequeathed his villa, and his papers, to The Johns Hopkins University. Today the former is dedicated to the memory of Charles South. Singleton.
Spelman was descended from the same family as Cotton and Increase Mather.
