(Adolf Hitler wakes up on a patch of open ground, alive an...)
Adolf Hitler wakes up on a patch of open ground, alive and well. Things have changed - no Eva Braun, no Nazi party, no war. Hitler barely recognizes his beloved Fatherland, filled with immigrants and run by a woman. People certainly recognize him, albeit as a flawless impersonator who refuses to break character. The unthinkable, the inevitable happens, and the ranting Hitler goes viral, becomes a YouTube star, gets his own T.V. show, and people begin to listen. But the Führer has another program with even greater ambition - to set the country he finds a shambles back to rights. Look Who's Back stunned and then thrilled 1.5 million German readers with its fearless approach to the most taboo of subjects. Naive yet insightful, repellent yet strangely sympathetic, the revived Hitler unquestionably has a spring in his step.

Timur Vermes attended the Helene-Lange-Gymnasium in Fürth. After graduating he studied history and politics at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg.
Since graduation, Timur Vermes worked as a journalist for tabloids such as the Munich Abendzeitung or the Cologne Express as well as other various periodicals. In 2012 Vermes published his first novel under the title Er ist wieder da (Look Who's Back). In the satire, he develops a scenario in which Adolf Hitler wakes up in Berlin in 2011 and finds new supporters with appearances on various television shows. In December 2013 it was announced that Vermes' bestseller should be made into a film in co-production by Constantin Film and Mythos Film. The film came out in October 2015 at the cinemas and was seen by 2.4 million viewers.
In 2018 Vermes released a new novel, The Hungry and the Fat, which was called grotesque by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

2012Quotations: "The fact is we have too much of a stereotype of Hitler. He's always the monster and we can be comforted by the fact that we're different from him. But in reality, he continues to spark real fascination in people, just as he did back then when people liked him enough to help him commit crimes."
There is no information on whether Timur Vermes is married or has any children.
