This is a hard (realistically possible, technically) science fiction novel, or techno-thriller. It involves the military use of bioweapons, not in the sense of engineered disease germs, but in the sense of deliberately genetically engineered, carnivorous multicellular life, or "monsters". This book is also a social and political satire, with a moderate degree of this and other forms of humor. Yes, there's a fair bit of swash- buckle (adventure), but that's just one element. It's not escapist fantasy, and it might be a tiny bit on the egg-headed side for some readers. It's guaranteed to stimulate your thinking, and also to offend straight-laced folks!
