Background
Tokimoto Toyohara was born in 1058 in Kyoto, Japan. He was the son of Tokimitsu a Court musician during the Heian Period.

Career
It is said that when Yoshimitsu went to oshu (north Japan) to the aid of his elder brother Yoshiie, during the Gosannen War, Tokimoto also followed him and at Osaka-no-Seki (near Kyoto) or at Ashigarayama (Kanagawa Prefecture) he was initiated into secret musics by his master. This being a legend, there is no basis for the truth of this story.
