Tokuji Mae studied the technique of carving and gilding lacquerware with gold or silver under Sesshu Hashimo-to for five years.
Achievements

At the 11th Teiten Exhibition (1930) his work won a special prize. At the 2,nd Nitten Exhibition (1945), Tokuji Mae was again awarded a special prize. His exhibit at the 5th Nitten Exhibition of 1949 received the prize of the Minister of Education. Awarded the National Craft Citation.
Devised his own technique in metal damascene and is a leading artisan in this field.
