Tomei Araki was born in 1817. He was called Yoshinoshin and had the pseudonyms of Issai and Ginshotei.

Career
Some of his early works bear the signature of Kichu. Trained under Ichijo Got6 and To jo Goto, he excelled in engraving in minute detail, especially in "Nanako," which is characterized by a background of minute incrustations resembling masses of millet.
