Tomio Kanamaru served at Railway Ministry and ultimately became chief of 2nd Section of Railway Research Department of Tetsudo-fu (Railway Board) (1937). Retired from the government service (1943) and the same year entered Nihon Express Company ultimately becoming president. Holds additional posts of director of Nihon Aviation Company, Hino Diesel Industry Company and Kokutetsu (National Railway) Baseball Team, permanent director of Nikkeiren (Federation of Japan Employers' Associations), director of Keidanren (Federation of Economic Organizations) and permanent councilor of Tosho (Tokyo Trading Company).
