He attended River Hill High School in Clarksville, Maryland before going to Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia for one postgraduate prep year.

In July 2013 he signed his first professional contract with Link Tochigi Brex in the Japan Basketball League. Brenton is a native of Columbia, Maryland. In Brenton"s senior year at River Hill, he averaged 20.9 points and 10.3 rebounds per game while leading them to the Class American Automobile Association state championship.
In Brenton"s four-year career playing for the Stony Brook Seawolves between 2008-2009 and 2012-2013 (he sat out in 2009-2010 with an injury), he played in 127 games scored 971 points and grabbed 1,114 rebounds.
He was part of two America East Conference-winning teams in 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 (three, technically, if one counts his injured season in 2009-2010). That season, he led the team in rebounds (279), assists (158), steals (54), and free throws made (100).
Brenton was named the conference"s player of the year, its defensive player of the year for the second consecutive season, a first team all-conference selection for the second consecutive season, and CollegeInsider.com named him their national defensive player of the year with the Lefty Driesell Award. Brenton was not selected in the 2013 National Basketball Association Draft.
