Tomoda Kyosuke was born on October 30, 1898 in Tokyo, Japan.
Tomoda Kyosuke began his career as a stage actor with the Theatrical Association presided over by Ryoha Hatanaka. Gaining fame he founded the Kamome (Sea Gull) Theater and then in cooperation with Kaoru Osanai and Yoshi Hijikata founded the Tsukiji Shogekijo (Little Theater) in 1924. Playing the lead role he soon became a great attraction.
Later in association with Shinsaku Aoyama and Chieko Higashiyama he organized the Gekidan Shin-Tokyo Troupe. In 1932 with the assistance of his wife Akiko Tamura he founded the Tsukijiza Troupe. By the year 1937 he had become the main star of the Bungakuza (Literary Theater) but was killed during the China Incident the same year.
