He was first elected mayor in 2006 and re-elected in 2010. He eventually moved to Newmarket in 1980 after relocating to work as a bank branch manager. He was re-elected in the 2010 election after an electoral victory over his only challenger, Michael Cascione.
He is a member of the York Regional Council and chairman of the Finance and Administration Committee.
