Finished Akita Normal School .
He was briefly an elementary schoolteacher before becoming a journalist working in turn for Tokyo Asulii, Mcmchoho and Taiwan Niclmiichi. Later taught. Oriental history at Kyoto University (1907), to become professor (1909). Then made a trip to China where he introduced rare books and in turn collected historical materials. A brilliant scholar, he was an. authority on Chinese history and was elected Member of Academy (1926). Was a painstaking teacher and had many pupils. Among his works are “Study of Japanese Culture” and “Study of Chinese Culture.”
