A native of Miyagi Prefecture, she attended Miyagi Gakuin Women"s Junior College and Mitsui Memorial Hospital Nursing School. University of Alabama at Birmingham, and University of Illinois at Chicago for her Doctorate (Doctor of Philosophy) in the United States.
