He attended the common schools, and then looked after the family farm. Later he was President of the Oyster Bay Bank. He was Supervisor of the Town of Oyster Bay for several terms beginning in 1867.
Membership
He was a member of the New York State Senate (1st Doctorate) in 1872 and 1873. And of the New York State Assembly (Queens Company, 1st Doctorate) in 1876, 1881 and 1882.
