Background
Tracey Moffatt grew up in Australia in the sixties, an era saturated with Disney movies and images from Life magazine. Yet she also grew up as an Aboriginal child in a white foster home, a part of the "lost generation" that had been separated from their Aboriginal parents. This complex personal history, and the sense of dislocation that it engendered, has often influenced the choice of subject matter in her art.
