He played college basketball for the Wisconsin Badgers. Jackson"s father, Jim, played in the National Basketball Association for 14 seasons. As a junior, he averaged 19 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals while leading his team to a 20–0 regular-season record.
In his senior season, he averaged 18.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 3.3 steals per game while being named conference player of the year.
Jackson played college basketball for Wisconsin, averaging 7.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 109 games (84 starts). As a senior, Jackson was the starting point guard for the Badgers until an injury against Rutgers sidelined him in January.
He returned during the National Collegiate Athletic Association tournament in a reserve role and ended up with averages of 8.1 points and 2.6 assists per game. After going undrafted in the 2015 National Basketball Association draft, Jackson joined the Washington Wizards for the 2015 National Basketball Association Summer League.
In six games for the Wizards, he averaged 4.3 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 16.0 minutes per game.
On January 26, 2016, he was acquired by the Iowa Energy of the National Basketball Association Development League. Two days later, he made his professional debut in a 90–87 loss to the Grand Rapids Drive, recording one assist in three minutes.
