He is a graduate of Portland State University. Animation Travis joined Will Vinton Studios, first as an international He worked as a stop-motion animator, working on the Emmy Award-winning television series The PJs, produced with Eddie Murphy Productions and Imagine Entertainment, as well as the animated series Gary & Mike on Universitas Pembangunan Nasional. He animated numerous television commercials and promo spots, including the NFL campaign on Fox.
Knight served as Vice President of Animation and as Lead Animator on Coraline, ParaNorman and The Boxtrolls.
He also sits on the Laika board of directors. Foreign 2016, he is working on his directorial debut, titled Kubo and the Two Strings.

Coraline, on which he was lead animator, was nominated for an Academy Award and a British Academy of Film and Television Arts Award, for "Outstanding Animated Film". In June 2007, Knight was honored by Animation Magazine as one of 12 "Rising Stars of Animation." In October 2012 he was awarded the first Alumni Achievement Award from Portland State University (graduated in 1998).
