He sat in the British House of Commons as a representative for Aylesbury from 1715 to 1722 and for Malmesbury in 1722. He also represented Hillsborough in the Irish House of Commons from 1713 to 1715 and subsequently Down to 1717, when he was raised to the Peerage of Ireland as Baron Hill of Kilwarlin, in the County of Down, and Viscount Hillsborough, with special remainder, failing heirs male of his body, to the heirs male of his father. Lord Hillsborough died in May, 1742.
