Trudy attended the University of Buffalo from 1961 until 1963. In 1965 she received a B.A. from New York University.
Garfunkel worked as publicity-advertising manager at Dial Press, New York City from 1967 until 1982. Since 1982 she has been director of Garfunkel Communications, New York City. Since 1983 she has also been a public relations, marketing and editorial consultant, she has worked with many authors, artists, photographers, publishing companies, nonprofit and arts organizations, museums, and dance companies. Garfunkel currently serves as chairperson of the Information Committee of the New York City Ballet.
Trudy is famous for her books on dance: "Letter to the World: The Life and Dances of Martha Graham", "Start Exploring Ballet", and "On Wings of Joy: The Story of Ballet from the 16th Century to Today". Her book "On Wings of Joy: The Story of Ballet from the 16th Century to Today" was selected for “Books for the Teen Age” by the New York Public Library. Her book "Letter to the World: The Life and Dances of Martha Graham" was nominated for the Orbus Pictus Award in 1996.
