Ellinwood, Truman Jeremiah was born on June 11, 1830 in Smithfield, New York, United States. Son of George W. and Cyrina P. Ellinwood.

Education

Reared on farm; educated Oneida Academy, Cazenovia Seminary and New York Central College.

Career

Taught in district schools. Later instructor and part owner of Adelphi Academy, Brooklyn. Taught in Boys’ High School, Young Men's Christian Association, and his own shorthand academic, Brooklyn.

One of founders, officer and teacher, Martha’s Vineyard Summer Institute.

Foreign 12 years president Cottage City Rural Improvement Society and Free Public library association Private stenographer for Henry Ward Beecher, 1858 until latter’s death, 1887, and furnished reports of his sermons and addresses to various periodicals. Trustee Oak Bluffs Free Public Library.
