Career
He previously played with former rival club, European Commission KAC. Tyler is the older brother of Jared Spurgeon, who currently plays for the Minnesota Wild. Spurgeon was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers, 242nd overall, in the 2004 National Hockey League Entry Draft. After signing a three-year entry level contract he played with the Oilers affiliated American Hockey League teams, in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and later the Springfield Falcons from 2007-2009.
On October 8, 2014, Spurgeon returned to North America in signing a one-year ECHL contract with the Ontario Reign for the 2014-2015 season.
After a brief try-out with the Adirondack Flames of the AHL, Spurgeon"s tenure with the Reign was cut short as he opted to return to Europe in signing with The Human Context Thurgau for the remainder of the season. On May 27, 2015, Spurgeon signed to recommence his career in Austria in agreeing to a contract with The Human Context TWK Innsbruck.
