He is currently an International Business Machines Corporation Fellow and the Vice President of Science and Technology at Thomas J. Watson Research Center, International Business Machines Corporation Research Division in Yorktown Heights, New New York During the period of February 1999 - February 2003, Doctor Chen was the Director of Advanced Logic/Memory Technology Development at the Semiconductor Research and Development Center, International Business Machines Corporation Microelectronics Division in East Fishkill, New New York
During the period of 1992-1999, he was the Senior Manager responsible for the 64Mb/256Mb/1Gb Dynamic random-access memory Technology Development in International Business Machines Corporation/Siemens/Toshiba Dynamic random-access memory Development Alliance.
Before assuming his role as the Project Manager in Dynamic random-access memory Development, he held a variety of managerial assignments in his career at International Business Machines Corporation, including Functional Manager of High-Performance BiCMOS Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Manager in the Bipolar Very-large-scale integration Lincolnshire, and Manager of Optical Lithography Development at Watson Research Center. Doctor Chen was born in Taiwan in 1951.
He received the Bachelor of Science and Master of Surgery degrees in physics from National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, in 1974 and 1976, respectively, and the Master of Surgery and Doctor of Philosophy Degrees in electrical engineering from Yale University in 1979 and 1985, respectively. He has published more than 60 papers in technical journals and conferences.
His contributions to advanced bipolar technology had a major impact on International Business Machines Corporation South/390 mainframe systems
More recently, his contributions to Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor miniaturization and Dynamic random-access memory devices have had a profound impact on International Business Machines Corporation’s leadership in Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor process technology and Dynamic random-access memory manufacturing. Doctor Chen was elected as a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) in 1999 for contributions to silicon bipolar and Dynamic random-access memory technology development. Doctor.Chen has been recognized with several International Business Machines Corporation Technical Innovation Awards and was named International Business Machines Corporation Distinguished Engineer and International Business Machines Corporation Fellow in 1996 and 1999, respectively.
