He was the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Organization for the Communist Party of the Proletariat of Italy ( MarxistLeninist). Buttafava broke away from the Communist Party of Italy (Marxist-Leninist) in 1980 and formed his own grouping, which adhered to the political line of Enver Hoxha.
