He completed high school in Ratskava.
During The Great Patriotic War he was in a guerrilla band of brigade «Elusives» («Nyaulounyya»). After district’s liberation he went to the front voluntarily. He was demobilized because of his injury in 1945. He worked as a secretary of Bulauskij Soviet of the settlement (1945-1946). In 1946 U. Yakutau was referred in Lithuania, where he worked as a secretary of Young Communist League’s committee (1946-1961). He complited historical department of Vilnius University (1954). Then he worked as a secretary of republican association «Vedy», as an assistant director of technical school № 53 (1961-1963), and as a senior staff scientist of Institute of History (BSSR) up to 1990. From 1990 he was on a pension. U. Yakutau was awarded with Patriotic war’s order, Red Star’s order, and some medals.
The beginning of his literary work is dated 1962. He published many scientific works about the history of Belarussian communist party. He wrote stories, biographic sketches about Belarussian statesmans and the Civil War («Agony»). His works were based on dokuments and facts. Also he writes essays.
