In the time of his education, U. Stukalich faced with financial difficulties, because his parents didn’t have the necessary means. But he had to take a sabbatical leave because of poor health.
In January, 1889 he was arrested and accuse of anti-government activities. U. Stukalich spent 4 months in prison. On account of interrogations, his health became worse. Then he worked as an assistant of a barrister still under the police supervision. In 1898 U. Stukalich left advocacy and continued in Treasury Chamber. He lived and worked in such cities as Gur’ev, Slonim, Grodno, but nevertheless he returned to Vitebsk.
Uladzimir Stukalich began to be interested in literary activities after graduating from the university. His historical materials were published in “Russkij kur’er” (“Russian courier”), where he used the pseudonym Venevich. Russian author G. Uspenski got interested in Stukalich’s articles. In February, 1890 G. Uspenski arrived in Vitebsk. In 1893 U. Stukalich made the acquaintance with the painter I. Repin and presented him his books. Stukalich researched the creative activity of M. Nikifarouski and A. Sapunov. U. Stukalich dedicated a special book to 25th annivesary of A. Sapunov’s creative activity. He was involved in civil life and struggled for opening a university in Vitebsk. U. Stukalich tried to establish the authorship of the poem “Taras na Parnase”.
