Career
He was the younger brother of the much more famous Civil War general Abner Doubleday and the son of congressman and War of 1812 veteran Ulysses F. Doubleday and Hester Donnelly. He later served with the 3rd United States Colored Troops and as colonel led the 45th United States Colored Troops. He was discharged on September 12, 1865.
And received his appointment as brevet brigadier general backdated to March 13, 1865.
