Urato Watanabe was born on March 2, 1909 in Aomori Prefecture, Japan.
In 1932, Urato Watanabe graduated from nonregular course of Tokyo Academy of Music; studied violin.
From 1930 Urato Watanabe dedicated himself to education of children at elementary schools. Meantime made frequent appearances at concerts conducting Educational Orchestra Band of Tokyo Metropolis (from 1937). Then became conductor of Educational Orchestra Band of Tokyo Metropolis. Started composing in the year 1939.
His symphonic music "Yajin" (Country Man) won first prize and the Education Minister's Prize at 10th Music Contest in 1941. The composition became a favorite concert number and was put on record by Victor Record Company. Among his other works are the symphonic compositions "Tokon" (Fighting Spirit) (1943), "Tsurugi" (Sword) and "Seijo" (A Sacred Woman). He wrote many pieces of cinema music. In 1965, went to Oslo to attend World Music Festival.
