Career
He was honored with the award on 15 August 1894. Brown was born in Covington, Ohio on 4 July 1841. He enlisted into the 30th Ohio Infantry.
He died on 24 January 1927 and his remains are interred at the Paris Cemetery in Pennsylvania.

Medal of Honor citation Despite the death of his captain at his side during the assault he continued carrying his log to the defense ditch. While he was laying his log in place he was shot down and thrown into the water.
