He has a degree in economics from Yerevan State University, and later taught at Yerevan State University, has a Master of Public Administration from Rutgers University and a Doctor of Philosophy in Public Administration from Rutgers University. Gabrielyan began his career at Armenia"s Central Bank in 1998, as a consultant. From 1999 to 2008, he was a board member, until in July 2008 he was named as vice-head of the central bank.
