Served two and a half years in a labour camp. Became a focus of international pressure on the Soviet authorities. The British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, passed a letter from Barinov to Gorbachev when she visited the Soviet Union.
Released, 1987, and emigrated to Britain.
