Graduated from the Moscow Institute of International Relations in 1950.

Career

Entered the Diplomatic Service. Posts in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 1952-1970. Councillor, Deputy Chief of the 3rd European Department Chief of the 2nd European Department, member of the Collegium, and Chief of the 3rd European Department Elected to the Cen Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, 1976.

1st Deputy of the International Information Dept, of the Central Committee, 1972-1982. Political observer for Izvestia, 1982. Ambassador to West Germany, 1984-1986.

Chief of the Novosti Press.
