1913 expelled from Saint St. Petersburg Polytech Institute for revol activities. 1914 reinstated at request of teaching staff 1917 took active part in February Revol.
Member of a revol comt in Urals and oblast comissar of agriculture 1918 switched allegiance from Leftist Socialist-Revol Party to Russian Social-Democratic Workers ’Party (Bolsheviks). Fought with partisan units during Civil War and did Party work in Urals, Ukraine, Siberia and Far East.
1921-1922 head, Propaganda Section, Central Committee, Russian Communist Party (Bolsheviks). Helped to develop Party educational policy. After Civil War engaged in research, publishing and teaching work.
1933 head, Polit Department, Far Eastern Kray Machine and Tractor Station. Subjected to reprisals by State Security organs.
