Served in Spanish-American War, 1898, with Light Battery A, Missouri Volumes, participating in the Puerto Rico expedition Admitted to bar, Saint Louis, 1894. Secretary Bar Association of Saint Louis, 1901-1904. Secretary Universal Congress Lawyers and Jurists, Saint Louis, 1904, and editor Report of same (public 1905).

Chairman Civic League’s commission on municipal discussions, 1907-1908, which projected the present City Club of Saint Louis.

Vice president Associated Harvard Clubs, 1907. Member of advisory board Missouri History Society, since 1905(vice president 1907-1913).

Director History Society Southern California, since 1913.
