Valeri Vladimirovich Kursov was born on March 17, 1954. He is Belarusian and built his academic career in Minsk, where he combined university teaching with research in algebra and mathematical sciences.
Kursov studied mathematics at University Minsk from 1971 to 1976, completing a degree in mathematics. He subsequently pursued advanced study in mathematical science at the same institution from 1983 to 2000. His academic training led to specialization in algebra and to research on linear groups, skew fields, quaternion algebras, and crossed products.
Kursov began his professional career as a collaborator at an Institute of Mathematics in 1976. From 1990 to 2000 he served as a professor at University Minsk. He continued his academic work at Belarusian State University in Minsk, where he is identified as an associate professor and candidate of physico-mathematical sciences. His scholarly activity has focused on algebra, with particular attention to noncommutative and division-algebra structures. His dissertation, “Commutator Properties of Linear Groups,” addressed the mathematical theory of linear groups, while later research included crossed products involving skew fields of quaternions and finite groups.
Kursov is documented as the son of Vladimir and Anna and as the father of Vitali and Yori.
